Our responsibility

Woodhouse AS is a sales office that cooperates with several suppliers exclusively. Our goal is to ensure that the movement of goods goes as efficiently as possible for both partners. We are (however) very concerned with promoting a sustainable administration of the world’s natural resources, and therefore only cooperate with suppliers that are FSC or PEFC certified. This implies that all parts of the chain, from the selection of raw materials until the finished product, comply with mutual international environmental demands to ensure a sustainable administration of the forest.

Se informasjonen om samarbeidspartnerne våre for spesifikke sertifiseringer og akkrediteringer.

PEFC

PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is an independent non-profit organization established in 1999. The organization works towards a sustainable administration of the forest through third-party certification. PEFC guarantees wood and paper product users the support of sustainable forest administration.

PEFC is a global umbrella organization for evaluation – and mutual recognition of national forest certification. These national certificates are based upon cooperation between governments all over the world to promote a sustainable administration of the forest. The certificates contain mutual international demands to the administration of the forest, in all these demands are supported by 149 governments.

FSC

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international network for a responsible administration of the world’s forests. The environmental movement, the forest industry, indigenous populations and the saw mill industry from 25 countries founded the FSC in 1993, and together made the 10 principles for responsible forestry. These principles were the base for the development of the common international forest standards. FSC brings people together to find solutions to problems caused by irresponsible use of the forest, and rewards good administration. Good administration entails that it is environmentally friendly, socially beneficial and economically profitable.

Environmental friendly use of the forest can be beneficiary to the indigenous people on a short or long term basis.

In addition this use of the forest will give strong incentives to the local population to preserve their natural resources and to be true to long term plans for usage.

Economically sustainable use of the forest means that the organization and administration of the production is profitable, but that the natural resources, the ecosystem and the local community are not put behind demands for profitability.

To be FSC approved one has to be appointed by an independent third party organization. Third party organizations carry out the necessary tests concerning the demands above, and only this organization can grant an FSC certification.
